pbVerify – FaceTec Eliminates Uncertainty in Dating Security and Adds Trust in Matches

Dating Security

Dating Security – pbVerify has partnered with FaceTec, the world leader in 3D face liveness and matching software. Their face authentication software anchors digital identity with a chain of trust from user onboarding to ongoing authentication.

FaceTec’s liveness detection is NIST/NVLAP lab-certified PAD Level 1 & 2 and iBeta Level 1 & 2 compliant, preventing spoofing attacks and fraud while adding zero friction to digital onboarding and identity verification.

Authentication

In a world of online dating, identity fraud has become one of the biggest challenges for dating apps and users. This is a big concern because online dating and social networking platforms are attracting a huge number of users and potential scammers who want to prey on these vulnerable people.

Fortunately, FaceTec offers a unique and innovative solution to this problem. It uses a new technology that allows it to verify whether a user is real in person, based on their facial features. The company says that its technology has been proven to prevent spoofing from photos, paper masks, lookalikes, video frames animated into avatars, projections on 3D heads, sleeping users with their eyes closed, and other attacks aimed at faking a user’s identity.

FaceTec’s patented technology creates an incredibly secure chain of trust from user onboarding to ongoing authentication on all modern smart devices and webcams. This is done by creating 3D FaceMaps and comparing them with a user’s Photo ID during enrollment, and then matching the user’s Liveness every time they log in.

Onboarding is simple – a two-second video selfie confirms liveness, matches the user’s 3D Face to their Photo ID, OCRs the text on their ID, and sets up their account. Then ongoing authentication proves 3D Liveness every time the user returns and compares their new 3D FaceMap to the one they obtained during enrollment – giving them instant access without a password.

Dating Security

This is all achieved in seconds from a user’s smartphone’s camera; it takes only 15 to 30 frames and captures how the user’s face bends and morphs as they move. This is then processed into a dynamic perspective 3D facial authenticator by FaceTec’s machine learning classifiers.

The software has been trained with tens-of-millions of spoof artifacts that include high-res photos, video, and high resolution video spoofs; masks & paper masks with eye & moth cutouts, Hollywood masks, wax figures, lifelike dolls, and animated digital avatars; mannequin heads and doppelgangers. This is backed up by a $200,000 Spoof Bounty Program, which gives hackers an incentive to attack its technology and uncover any unknown vulnerabilities in the Liveness AI before they affect a customer or end-user.

Verification

Using patented 3D Face Authentication Software, FaceTec eliminates uncertainty in Dating Security and adds Trust in Matches. A user’s face is instantly matched to their Photo ID, OCRed, and then stored in the user’s account for instant access to anything connected to that user’s device – from car doors and bank accounts to apps and online shopping.

During onboarding, a user’s video-selfie proves their liveness, matches their facemap to their Photo ID, and sets up their new account. Every time they login, FaceTec’s ongoing user authentication again proves liveness & identifies their face to their Photo ID. This continuous verification process is a strong deterrent against spoofing – paper masks with eyes and moth cutouts, high resolution videos, images swapped in after liveness check, wax figures, lifelike dolls, animated digital avatars, video projections on 3D heads, sleeping users, doppelgangers, impostors, and more.

With the ongoing data collection process, each successful session adds more Face Data to the 3D FaceMap that enhances usability. For example, a person may wear sunglasses or hats, have facial hair that changes with the lighting, wear makeup, have different shades of glasses, or have a more defined nose or eyebrows.

In addition to securing the user’s Photo ID, the patented 3D Liveness Detection software prevents spoofing from 2D paper photos & digital images, high resolution videos, image swap-in after liveness check, paper masks with eye & moth cutouts, Hollywood masks, wax figures, lifelike dolls, video projections on 3D heads, asleep users, doppelgangers, and more.

FaceTec’s Server Software runs 100% inside YOUR Servers in YOUR firewall, with NO PII or Biometric Data sent to FaceTec during production deployments. The Device & Server SDKs deploy in minutes and are easy to customize and configure through our REST API code.

When processing a new 3D FaceScan/Map, the Server SDK will generate a Hash Table of Hashes that correspond to previous Hashes stored in the database of hashes. This Hash table will contain a hash of the FaceScan that is being processed if it was previously seen by your system, enabling you to identify replay attacks quickly.

Liveness Detection

The face verification industry is on the cusp of an exciting evolution: Meet Group, a dating app, has announced that it will introduce a biometric verification badge to its platform. This badge is powered by FaceTec’s 3D face authentication technology and is expected to be a foundational part of the user experience.

This innovative security solution is designed to eliminate uncertainty in dating security and add trust in matches, ensuring that every person matched to a profile picture or text message is the real deal. Compared to 2D Face Matching, which uses a single frame to determine if a person is the same person as the one scanned, FaceTec’s liveness detection algorithms use 3D data from a video selfie taken by the device user.

Dating Security

With this data, FaceTec’s AI is able to verify if the user has a valid account and make a matching decision. This allows online dating apps to provide users with a more secure, safe, and convenient experience.

It also provides an additional layer of security for digital businesses during the onboarding process, improving the speed and accuracy of liveness detection and providing a more definitive “yes” or “no” decision to business customers on the identity verification transaction. This helps Jumio, a leading trusted identity as a service provider, deliver more robust and accurate results for its customers during the online identity verification process.

The algorithm uses hundreds of video frames to generate a 3D face map that is reverse engineered from the standard 2D camera. This mapping includes a variety of visual data such as lighting, shadows, pose, landmark occlusion, facial expressions and more. Then the engine feeds back feedback to the interface, which reacts accordingly.

When a session completes successfully, the server returns a 3D FaceMap (350KB) which can be used in future matching sessions. This does not create a honeypot risk, as the user’s 3D FaceMap is only valid for a few minutes and is time-stamped. It’s like a key that opens a lock, but only after it has been stored and never used before.

In addition, spoofing is limited to the user’s 3D FaceMap because it is encrypted and can be decrypted and modified at any point in the future without affecting the resulting match. This prevents Level 4, which tries to inject a previously captured video frame or deepfake puppet into the session, and Level 5, which attempts to take over the camera feed. This is what is known as a Presentation Attack.

Duplicate Checks

MeetMe has teamed up with FaceTec to add a verification badge to users who prove their liveness by matching a selfie with their profile photo. This feature eliminates uncertainty in dating security and adds trust in matches, which can help users avoid romance scams or other dangerous behaviors.

While the software is still relatively new to the dating industry, it is a promising development that could help make online dating more secure. But more apps would need to adopt this technology in order for it to make a significant impact on the industry. Apps also need to educate users about the process and let them know that they are not faking their identities.

Founded in 2013, FaceTec is a global cybersecurity leader in biometric face authentication systems that upgrade security for financial institutions, government agencies, social networks, and any organization with a user database. The company’s pioneering 3D facial verification software is becoming the standard for onboarding, KYC, and ongoing authentication, stopping ID fraud and unauthorized access for millions of users on six continents.

The company’s software suite includes 3D face matching, 1:N face scanning, age estimation, photo ID anti-spoofing, barcode reading, NFC chip scanning, and a wide range of other security features at no extra cost. The company also offers a bounty program, which has withstood over 45,000 attacks so far.

FaceTec’s verification capabilities are used by more than 90 distribution partners, including leading online dating sites and apps. The software can be purchased individually for a small monthly fee, or as part of an enterprise subscription.

When a user logs in to their account, the software will ask them to take a selfie and upload it to the server. This is then analyzed by FaceTec’s AI-enhanced software to determine if they are a real person.

If they are, they will be given a verification badge on their profile and displayed throughout the app. This will ensure that only good-faith users can see their photos and messages, cutting down on catfishing and other harmful behaviors.

The company’s verification algorithms are largely spoof proof and have been proven to perform 50-100x better than the top algo tested by NIST on a much harder dataset. They also achieve better-than-human performance in all combinations of age, gender & ethnicity.
